What do you do in the Sixth Form?
What do Post-16 students do?
If you are thinking of continuing your full-time education at Settle College you will no doubt see this as an opportunity to gain further examination qualifications. The pursuit of qualifications is an important part of student life, but there’s more to it than that!
As well as studying in your chosen area you will follow an Enrichment Programme provided to ensure that all students follow a balanced curriculum. Whatever you choose to support your academic programme, you will be enhancing your learning, developing new skills and adding another interesting dimension to your CV. You don’t have to take up endless enrichment activities, and it is important that you consider your current commitments to get a good balance between academic work and enrichment, with time to relax out of College. Previous enrichment programmes have included:
Cross-age tutoring | Netball / Badminton | Extra-curricular club support (film club, art club) | Science in Society course |
Subject support | Football / Rugby | Silver Surfers | Open University courses |
Primary school support | Duke of Edinburgh | Settle community support | Cooking for University course |
Library Learners | Young Enterprise | Settle Library Service / Settle Stories | Extended Project Qualification |
Year 7 reading buddies | Global Group | College Magazine “Settle College Matters” | School shop |
Guardian Group | Senior Leadership Team | Administration | Running our Instagram Account |

Student Leadership Opportunities
We aim to foster ambitious, enthusiastic, creative, empowering, and united individuals, pulling together as a team supporting the school values to ‘be the best than you can be’. We believe that students should have the opportunity to participate actively in school life by taking up roles and responsibilities throughout the academic year in order to contribute to whole school improvement.
The Leadership programme is fundamental to student engagement and enables our students to participate in the sort of leadership opportunities which prepare them for life in a global society. These may be in or out of school, and have included: Sixth Form Committee, presenting to governors, leading activities for younger students and the Senior Leadership Team.
