Physical Education at Settle College aims to provide learners with a lifelong love of sport and an educated outlook on a healthy lifestyle. Through a carefully constructed timetable, we offer a wide range of sporting experiences from traditional PE sports to less mainstreams activities that help to provide the students with a varied and challenging curriculum. The aim of PE department is to ensure all students have a positive experience of core PE and to achieve this the focus is very much on the students achieving their best rather than focusing on what others are doing.

Please see the document below for more information about the curriculum for PE.  If you would like more detailed documents, including information about literacy, personal development and careers, please contact the subject leader.

PE Department Curriculum Intent

For students looking for an extra challenge we offer a full Extra-Curricular timetable that allows the students to improve their performance in a particular sport and also have the opportunity to represent school in certain activities. Extra-Curricular clubs are open to everyone, regardless of prior experiences or ability.

There will be inter-house football competitions for the boys and inter-house rounders competitions for the girls.

Physical Education is taught across Key Stage 3 for 4 lessons per fortnight. The focus within PE lessons is to develop skills to excel in a broad range of physical activities; ensure our students are physically active for sustained periods of time; engage students in competitive sports and activities and help them to lead healthy, active lives. In addition to this students will develop cross-curricular skills such as numeracy, literacy, thinking skills, leadership and team work.

Students in Key Stage 4 have 4 lessons of Physical Education per fortnight. Skills are further enhanced, and opportunities for leadership, umpiring, organising events and the running of tournaments becomes a focus which develops students’ confidence and management abilities.
As well as the full core curriculum of Physical Education in Key Stage 4, GCSE Physical Education is also offered as an option subject in Years 10 and 11. The course provides an enriched learning experience for students where they will learn theory, demonstrate practical ability and showcase their sporting talents.  Consistently high grades are achieved by our students in these courses.
