MFL

Our philosophy in the Modern Foreign Languages Department is to help students develop their knowledge of French and Spanish for practical use, encourage them to appreciate the value of language learning and foster an interest in and tolerance of other cultures, both European and global. We believe in communicating as much as possible in the target language in lessons, in addition to frequent study and practice of vocabulary and grammar. Our aim is to develop our students’ listening, reading, speaking and writing skills through a wide range of activities including oral work, working on audio and visual materials, playing language games, using interactive resources and writing blogs.

As well as practising our language skills in the classroom, we offer lots of extra curricular activities to immerse our students in the cultural capital of language learning. We celebrate the European Day of Languages annually, offer a KS3 Barcelona Trip and hold a weekly film club where students watch films in the target languages.

Please see the document below for more information about the curriculum for the MFL department.  If you would like more detailed documents, including information about literacy, personal development and careers, please contact the subject leader.
